Women’s fashion exhibition in York explores social change in 20th century
New Fashions for the New Woman, 1900–1950, is open to the public at the art gallery in Heslington Hall until April 17.
Curated by second-year history of art students under the supervision of Professor Cordula van Wyhe, the exhibition traces the rise of the “New Woman” – confident, independent and increasingly visible in public life – and the way fashion both responded to and shaped this cultural shift.
